theme competition
The logo contest is now over, and that was a huge success. Next up is the Shell-Shocked theme contest! This contest starts with the release of Issue 3 and lasts for a month (yes, I know theming can be a lengthy procedure!).

I'm no themer, so two prolific themers on the shell scene, Phar0e and Maestr0 have agreed to help out with the contest.

You can get some images from the theme-pack to get you started. I've laid out some rules and guidelines below - the rest we'll sort out as things progress.

Leave any questions or comments you have here. Above all, have fun!

Rules:
  1. Copyright: Themes will remain the property of their original creators.
  2. Closing Date: Wednesday October 9th, 2002. (A running time of one month.)
  3. The theme can be for any shell, preferably freeware, but not necessarily.
  4. Themes must be roughly based on this site's design - there is a lot of room for flexibility though, and this won't be enforced rigidly.
  5. Each submission must be accompanied by a screenshot detailing the themes major features and a thumbnail of width 400 pixels. The screenshot must be named nick-screenshot.jpg and the thumbnail nick-screenshot-thumb.jpg. (Or any other graphic format you chose to use.)
  6. Please name your file according to: nick-Shell-Shocked.zip.
  7. If you use icons from the theme-pack, please include this file with your theme. If you use the graphics of others, seek their approval as well.
  8. Send submissions to themes@shell-shocked.org
  9. Multiple submissions are OK.
  10. If the theme is a Litestep theme, it must be OTS compliant.
Guidelines:
  • Use this page to chat about the theming process and help each other out - this is a friendly competition!
  • Optional: Write a few notes about your theme - problems, ideas, future plans etc.
  • To get some feedback while theming, you can post screenshots to any site and get feedback here.
  • Try to make your theme config files as understandable as possible. Your themes will probably get looked at for learning purposes moreso than other themes. Shell-Shocked is after all partly about tutorials, and references will most likely be made to your themes in several tutorials (in preference to others).

Hi West - I did a while back, if it's a recent one - I haven't been checking regularly. My flat's been totally flooded from a burst pipe - so life is a bit disrutped at the moment.

I think I'll implement a "keyword" for this site, so you'll have to start your comment with ... say "shells" ... I'll strip that and post your comment.

Hopefully that will keep the spammers at bay.
