Some days you're the dog, some days you're the fire hydrant.

initial stages
I'd just like to publicly thank a few individuals who gave valuable suggestions, tips, feedback and encouragement during the initial stages of creating shell-shocked. In no particular order they are: Brian (Wolven), CraHan, demigod, George (Davidovich), jalist, La Haine, Maestr0, Maur, Omar, Phar0e, philsci, root, steev and tin_omen.

site code
Much if this site uses PHP code written by jalist, and released as the e107 website system. Jalist has done the community a great service by releasing this package. Indeed he expressed the desire for more community-based litestep sites around. (Like in the old days he says, but I wouldn't know.) So said, so done. See his e107 page for sites that employ the e107 package.

I actually hacked up the code pretty bad. So different is the structure now, that if I tried to use any new e107 themes and modules, they wouldn't work. I felt a bit bad about releasing this monstrousity of a site, spoiling jalist's code, so I thought I'd seek permission first. Better safe than sorry eh?

Subject: e107 permission request

Hello and good day Jalist,

I'm writing to request permission to release a shell-related (LS in particular) newsletter based on the e107 code.

I'd like explicit permission, because I've hacked it up a bit. It doesn't look like any of the included themes.

A preview issue is almost ready. You can have a look at it here:
http://shell-shocked.org/

I'd like to take this opportunity to heartily thank you for releasing the e107 system.

Ravi

Hi Ravi

Consider yourself fully permitted :) Thanks for asking but there's really no need - anyone is welcome to change the code to suit their own needs, as long as they don't release it as something they've made. The site looks really good, I've bookmarked it and I'll keep a close eye on it.

Cheers
Steve

site icons
Permission has been granted to use the FauxS-X (cobalt) series of icons on this page. Paul Boyer (aka mormegil) has generously agreed to let us use them. Some more goodies can be found at his site: www.FauxS-X.com.

I'll be making a big deal about respecting other people's work and getting permission to use things on this site. If you feel at any time that I've not lived up to this, please contact me and we'll rectify the situation.

Good day Paul,

I'm writing to request permission to use some of your icons on a web-site. Specifically, a few icons from the FauxS-XP(Cobalt) series.

The site will be a litestep-related site (see joeblade.com or www.shellfront.org). I'd like to use the icons for article categories.

Of course, full credit will be given to you for your work. I can arrange a viewing if you'd like - the site isn't quite up just yet.

Thanks for the consideration.

Ravi

Paul,

Thanks a lot for the permission. A temporary in-progress version of the site is here: http://shell-shocked.org

This will demonstrate how I intend to use the icons, and which ones I'm interested in. The links should tell you a bit more about what the site purports to be.

Thanks again!

Ravi

Hi West - I did a while back, if it's a recent one - I haven't been checking regularly. My flat's been totally flooded from a burst pipe - so life is a bit disrutped at the moment.

I think I'll implement a "keyword" for this site, so you'll have to start your comment with ... say "shells" ... I'll strip that and post your comment.

Hopefully that will keep the spammers at bay.
